Why is the filter alert showing on my refrigerator without a filter?
If your refrigerator doesn’t have a water filter but you are seeing an alert telling you to replace the water filter, you will need to update the software. This alert will appear as a red light saying “Filter Reset”.
The software will need to be updated via the SmartThings app. Follow either the Android or iOS video below, depending on the operating system of your smartphone.
You also have the option to manually disable the alert, which is also included in the video.

Steps for Android

Follow these steps to connect your Refrigerator to SmartThings using your Android device.
This video will walk you through four sections one by one.
Let's start by connecting your refrigerator to SmartThings using Wi-Fi.
Please ensure that both your Wi-Fi router and refrigerator are powered on.
If you don't have a Wi-Fi router at home, please skip to chapter 2, connecting using a mobile hotspot.
Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your phone.
Swipe down the quick settings panel and check that Wi-Fi is turned on.
If Wi-Fi is disabled, tap its icon to turn it on.
Close the panel and select the SmartThings app.
Tap the Plus icon in the top right corner to select the Add device menu.
Tap Scan QR code at the bottom of the screen.
When the QR code scan screen appears, scan the SmartThings QR code located inside the refrigerator.
SmartThings will begin connecting the refrigerator to your phone.
Place your phone close to the refrigerator for a few seconds.
If the connection doesn't work, try opening and closing your refrigerator door and try again.
To connect to Wi-Fi, select the Wi-Fi network you are using.
Then, enter your Wi-Fi password and tap Connect.
When entering the password, pay attention to English letters, numbers, and special characters. If your phone is already connected to a Wi-Fi network, this step will be skipped automatically.
The refrigerator will be registered to your Samsung account.
Once the connection is complete, you can rename your refrigerator. Tap done.
Once the plug-in is downloaded, it will be loaded automatically.
Next, you will see the refrigerator panel screen.
The refrigerator card will be added to the SmartThings app.
If you don't have a Wi-Fi router, follow the next section of this video to connect using your mobile hotspot.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone is active and your refrigerator is powered on.
To connect using your mobile hotspot, go to the mobile Hotspot settings.
Please enable the hotspot on your phone and make sure to remember or write down your hotspot name and password.
Tap the Plus icon in the top right corner to select the add device menu.
Tap Scan QR code at the bottom of the screen. When the QR code scan screen appears, scan the SmartThings QR code located inside the refrigerator.
SmartThings will begin connecting the refrigerator to your phone.
Place your phone close to the refrigerator for a few seconds.
If prompted to activate AP mode, simply follow the onscreen guide in the SmartThings app.
Select the hotspot you noted earlier to connect. Make sure to choose your own phone's hotspot name from the list.
Enter your hotspot password and tap Connect. When entering the password, pay attention to English letters; numbers, and special characters.
If the hotspot device is not found, tap Add network at the bottom of the network lists. If you have tapped on add Wi-Fi networks, enter your network name and password and tap OK.
Once the hotspot connection is complete, the refrigerator will be registered to your Samsung account.
Once the connection is complete, you can rename your refrigerator. Tap Done.
Once the plugin is downloaded, it will be loaded automatically. Next, you will see the refrigerator panel screen. The refrigerator card will be added to the SmartThings app.
To update the software on your refrigerator, just follow the steps shown in this section of the video.
Select your connected refrigerator.
Then, tap the top right menu button to open the information.
Tap Update device to start the update.
Read the consent and tap Update to continue.
The update will then begin and a progress bar will appear.
Once the update is complete, select the device again to check the updated software version.
Tap Menu and tap Information.
Select Software information from the menu.
Check the firmware to make sure the update was successful.
This section of the video guides you through turning off the filter alert if the issue occurs on your model.
To disable the alarm, please find the display panel, which is usually located on the inner right side of the refrigerator.
You will be able to see control buttons on the bottom of the panel. Press any button to activate the display.
Press 'Circle Button' until the "filter later" label, blinks.
Press 'Right Button' to dismiss the 'water filter replacement' alarm.
Press 'Circle Button' to confirm. When the water filter light stops blinking, it means the alert has been cleared.
